“I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit.”
Our Story
The Story of High Pointe
Beginning with a seminary professor's challenge to “get out of your comfort zone and start your own church in the Pacific Northwest”, Kevin Sullivan dreamed about the possibilities. Dreams became reality in June 1999, when the Sullivan's moved away from family in Houston, Texas to South Hill, Washington to start High Pointe Community Church…a church for the unchurched.
What followed a few short months later was the beginning of a home Bible study, the arrival of others passionate about starting a different kind of church and the visible transforming work of God. Soon, a home was not large enough to hold the Bible study so High Pointe began meeting in a community center and then Hunt Elementary School. It was at Hunt Elementary that High Pointe held their grand opening service on Easter Sunday, April 23rd, 2000.
Following Easter, the High Pointe family quickly grew to over 250 people, requiring a second service. By January 2001 the High Pointe family had grown to nearly 500 strong and in need of more space. God graciously provided a new facility—newly constructed Emerald Ridge High School. The high school's 550 seat auditorium was the answer to their prayers providing the necessary room to grow. A second service has since been added giving High Pointe two Sunday morning services at 9 and 11 a.m.
High Pointe Community Church continues to dream big and trust God in seeing the spiritual landscape of South Hill and beyond changed for God's glory. The church continues to pray and plan for the eventual acquisition of land and construction of church buildings that will be a part of that dream coming true.
