  • About | High Pointe Church

Learn about our mission, learn about our beliefs, and meet our Staff! Our Mission AIM ing to know Jesus and make H im known. A CTIVATE our faith I MPACT our world M ULTIPLY his disciples High Pointe Church is much more than the worship service you attend on a Sunday morning. We believe we are part of the continuing fulfillment of Jesus' promise to build His Church; not a building but a movement of Christ-followers across all nations. The following eight statements express what we hope will be ongoing individually and corporately in our lives as the movement continues. We Will be People who reject the pursuit of comfortable, complacent Christianity and embrace the risk of following Jesus through a life of sacrifice and service. Meet our Team Kevin Sullivan Lead Pastor Kevin is the founding pastor of High Pointe Church. He and his wife started High Pointe in April of 2000. Kevin is into all things sports with his favorite being football (he's an avid Minnesota Viking’s fan). On most Mondays you will find him on the golf course. Kevin enjoys nights out with his wife Nancy at a nice restaurant and taking a trip to Switzerland is on his bucket list. Email Kevin Steven Hinkeldey Director of Spiritual Growth Prior to joining High Pointe, Steven and his family served as missionaries in Guatemala. Steven and his wife, Aracely, have three children who are a quarter German, a quarter Irish, and half Mayan. Family aside, there are three things that Steven loves: Jesus, the Philadelphia Eagles, and Optimus Prime of the old, 1980s Transformers. Email Steven Aandre McDonell Director of Student Ministries Aandre was born and raised in Tacoma. Not growing up in a Christian family, the grace of Jesus saved him in his senior year of High School. Before coming to High Pointe, Aandre served in and eventually joined the staff of the same youth group he was saved through. In Aandre’s spare time he enjoys watching WWE, eating sushi, and having family picnics at Chamber’s Bay with his wife and daughter. Email Aandre Maleta Benson Office Manager Maleta and her husband Lynn are Washington natives and have attended High Pointe Church since the first service in April of 2000. Maleta has been on staff since 2003. She loves spending time with family and enjoys game nights, crafting and all things creative. The beach is her "happy" place, where she can unwind and soak up the sea air. Any beach will do, but she would love to return to Hawaii or the Caribbean for some sunshine. Email Maleta Stephanie Larkins Director of Children's Ministry Stephanie has been a High Pointe member and serving in KidZone for over 18 years. She came onto staff full time as the Director of KidZone in September, 2021. She is committed to kids and teaching them about Jesus! Email Stephanie Christie Rayburn Director of Member Ministries Christie & her husband Mark have been attending High Pointe since 2009 and she is humbled to be able to serve her church family. Believing only two things go into eternity - people & the Word of God - that is where she wants to invest her time, energy, and efforts! She is addicted to working out, can read one Harlan Coban novel after another, believes subtle is overrated, and still tries to cross everything off her list each day! Email Christie Tracy Hansen Controller Tracy and her family have been attending High Pointe for almost 20 years and she has been on staff as the Controller since mid 2007. After earning her accounting degree from PLU and several years in banking, she was grateful for getting the position of Controller as it allowed her to work from home and still be a stay at home mom to three amazing kids. In her spare time she enjoys reading, going to the gym, crafting, and spending time with her family. Email Tracy Hansen Tabitha Moberg Administrative Assistant for Spiritual Growth Tabitha and her family have been attending High Pointe for more than 8 years. Email Tabitha Moberg Samantha Polson Administrative Assistant for HP Youth Samantha and her family have been attending High Pointe since 2016. After plugging into serving at High Pointe, she quickly learned what a blessing it is to be a part of a local church body; something she had not experienced before. She is passionate about that abundant life Jesus talks about. Her favorite places are the ocean and the mountains and enjoys around the year trips to both. Most of all, she loves spending time with her husband and four kids. Email Samantha Talon Sisley Tech Lead Talon serves as the Tech Lead at the church, overseeing all things audio, video, and lighting. He’s loves creating an environment where people can comfortably experience God’s presence through excellent and thoughtful production. He gave his life to Christ at a young age and grew into a deeper, personal understanding of his faith in his early twenties. Today, he finds joy in using his gifts to support the mission of the church and help others encounter God. Outside of ministry, he’s blessed with a wonderful wife and four kids, and when he’s not working or serving, you’ll usually find him enjoying time with his family, staying active, or tackling projects around the house. Email Talon ELDER TEAM KEVIN SULLIVAN KEVIN WARREN RICH WATERMAN ROMAN NUGEN TOM WILLIAMS OUR BELIEFS GOD God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He is an intelligent, spiritual and personal being who has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God. (Genesis 1:1, 26,27; 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14) JESUS Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven's glory and will return again to earth to reign as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. (Matthew 1:22,23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14,15; 1 Corinthians 15:3,4; Romans 1:3,4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14,15; Titus 2:13) THE HOLY SPIRIT The Holy is Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under His control daily. (2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16,17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16, 12:12,13; Ephesians 1:13, 5:1; Galatians 5:25) THE BIBLE The Bible is God's word to all people. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture of error. (2 Timothy 3:16,17; 2 Peter 1:20,21; Psalm 119:105, 160; Psalm 12:6; Proverbs 30:5) HUMAN BEINGS People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. They are the supreme object of God's creation. Although people have tremendous potential for good, they are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called sin. This sin separates people from God and cannot be bridged apart from God's intervention. (Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6; Romans 3:10-12, 23: Isaiah 59:1,2) ETERNITY People were created to exist forever either eternally separated from God by sin, or in union with God through forgiveness. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with God is Heaven. The New Heavens and the New Earth, and Hell are real places of eternal existence. (John 3:16; John 2:25; 1 John 5:11-13; Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:15; Matthew 8:11; Matthew 24:44) SALVATION Salvation is a gift from God to people of living eternally in Heaven with Him. People can never make up for their sin by self-improvement or earn their way to Heaven by doing good things. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can people be saved from sin's penalty of eternal separation from God. Eternal life begins the moment one confesses Jesus Christ as Lord and by faith receives Him into his/her life. (Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6, 1:12; Acts 4:10-12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1, 10:9) ETERNAL SECURITY Because God gives people eternal life through Jesus Christ, those who believe in and trust Christ are secure in their salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives this security. (John 10:29; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25, 10:10, 14; 1 Peter1:3-5) SIN We are all born with a sinful nature and in need of forgiveness by God. Our repentance is agreeing with God that we have sinned and allowing Him to forgive us of the sin. God totally forgives us of the sin and remembers it no more.
